Today I have a bone to pick with the Mother Nature. Or Mother Goddess. Or Mother Earth. Whatever she is going by these days. More importantly, whatever will get her attention the fastest. Because my friends, I can not stand this weather another minute! There, I said it. I am sitting with my winter sweater wrapped about me. Goosebumps. My teeth clattering. I have already packed my winter coats away and my poor little polka dot tootsies are unable to be properly viewed as they so deserve. No, instead they are tucked inside my furry slippers. Sigh. Hasn't winter dragged on long enough?
I have been dreaming of spring as far back as February. Barbecues, walks in the park, scatterings of pinks and purples in fragrant aromas, even bugs. And thunderstorms. I will take any of it if it will just come. And stick.
I have done everything in my power short of screaming from the hilltops to have my wishes be heard. And I have given numerous subtle hints as well.
If you follow my blog on a regular basis you may remember a few of my futile attempts...
I did a bedroom make under. I stripped curtains and dark brown bedding/lamp shades to let in the light. Any light I could snatch up... I added white linens and a frilly spring pillow.

I racked my brain and ransacked my scrapbook supplies and created this lovely "fake" spring image. Then a light bulb came on and on a whim I decided to start a 30 Days of Spring Photo Challenge. (This photo would become the button.) A reason to look for the beauty even while I was in the "waiting" stage. And by the way, it is still going until May 15th. Grab your cameras and join me.

I had a polka dot party thinking Mother Nature might want to join me. Ha! WRONG. So, so wrong.

We made edible nests. 'Cause what says spring more than robin's nests?

I made my kids wear flip flops for our Easter photo shoot, 'cause I'm mean that way. And then despite all my efforts, we lost our props to the wind and froze our behinds off and had to accept defeat.

I took a walk through the Arboretum looking for signs of spring. Any sign. Perhaps I was expecting a miracle. I did find beauty, but in the most unsuspecting of places. A naked grove of trees. But it didn't exactly scream spring. Sigh. Below is one of my rare spring finds. She's a keeper.

And just today I bought this adorable cake pan at Target (50% off in their Easter section- go. hurry. run.) and made some yummy spring berry muffins. Aren't they just the most adorable things ever?
And yet nothing. It is still cold. Still dreary. And I am grumpy. Sorry I am human. The end.

ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm with you on needing Spring. Winter has been way, WAY too long this year.
I love that frilly pillow in your bedroom!
ReplyDeleteHow in the world did I miss the photos of your room make under?!? It's beautiful! I sure hope the weather warms up for you soon. We've had severe thunderstorms everyday for about 4-5 days now and it's not supposed to let up until Thursday. Flash flood warnings everyday. Kids being sent home early due to flooding. I'm so sick of mother nature right now. Let's run away and go to Hawaii! I'll hook us up with free room and board. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the bedroom, and the muffins, and the balloon picture the best. More light is always good, enjoy your "new" room :)

Keeping my fingers crossed that SPRING is right around the corner for you!
ReplyDeleteWe have the same bedroom furniture and now all I can think about is lighten up things and making it Spring around our house. We had ONE day of Spring yesterday on the prairie and thankfully I had the day off to enjoy. It warmed my soul! I linked up with Grain Bins, Cows & Track Meets (yes that was yesterday). Thanks for hosting. I have a linky also today.
ReplyDeleteTotally inspired to do a bedroom make-under/brightening! It looks so full of light! Spring is here, we just have to look at it through a rose-colored lens for a few more weeks!
ReplyDeleteAll gorgeous shots, but I love the one of the kids. They're good sports, great picture!
ReplyDeleteHope you get some warm weather soon. Mother Nature is pelting us with thunderstorms and tornadoes. Not sure who ticked her off. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI completely wish I could bundle up a package of Florida sunshine and shoot it up to you!!! I love your pix (as always!!).

If home is where the heart is then perhaps spring is to you certainly have created it around you despite Mother natures whims.
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures as always. Beautiful. Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny! I've been giving Mother Nature loud ultimatums about the endless cold weather and my boyfriend thinks I'm crazy. But it looks like spring has finally sprung! It was over 80 today and I took lots of flower pictures with my new digital camera!
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for Spring too! It's been so cold but today skipped Spring and went right into Summer - no happy medium. But the rest of the week is back to cold...I wish it would make up its mind!
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to say how much I love your photos! Your bedroom is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove the Spring on the clothesline! Very creative. Also love the bird's nests. I need to try that one.
ReplyDeleteIt may be chilly, but you took some amazing photos this week!

ReplyDeleteFabulous pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you don't have spring yet. I hope it visits you soon and you can stop being grumpy. I need to find that cake pan. I love those shapes.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures as always!
ReplyDeleteI think the polka-dot umbrella one is my favorite. Combination of portrait and simple pattern.
I'm so sorry for you and almost feel bad that we have had such a nice weather. I really hope it is getting warmer there and you get to use your polka dot tootsies:)
ReplyDeletewarm virtual hugs
I love all these photos. Gorgeous! Hope you all get some nice weather soon!
ReplyDeleteI just keep hearing about the horrible weather. TOTAL BUMMER! Things like that help me avoid missing Kentucky BADLY. You could always move to Florida, where it already feels like the beginning of August.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos. Hope spring joins you soon. Beautiful shot of you with the polka dot umbrella.
ReplyDeleteI may have to make a mad dash to Target today! Great pictures. I really love the ones of the the Arboretum. I meant to note on those the other day and forgot.

I'm waiting for spring too! Fingers crossed it gets here soon.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be faking it really really well. And I'd like to shoot mother nature myself. Right now rain, more talk of tornadoes. Craziness!
ReplyDeleteI have a bone to pick with Mother Nature, too - after cajoling her into bringing us spring weather, she sent us summer heat and humidity instead, like it's August instead of April. I'll send you some heat if you'll send us some cooler weather! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE all the shots - hope Mother Nature sends spring your way soon!

ReplyDeleteAlicia- Loving the bedroom & the umbrella. I have been wanting to shed the earth tones & add a little blue & white myself. I am thinking it may happen here soon as I am getting quite bored with the current decor right now. :)
ReplyDeletelove the airy look of the bedroom. Great spring shots.

ReplyDeleteLove the kids running through the bare corn field. Gotta love the farm neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteThe picture under the umbrella is great, I love the matching and complementing colors.
ReplyDeleteI live in a sunny state, but heard recently from my mother that a nearby city received 24 inches last weekend. A photo showed them shoveling away the snow to have an easter egg hunt. That. Is. Not. Right! :(
ReplyDeleteIt's very cold here too.
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same about this never ending cold...let it end :)
ReplyDeleteHi, popped over from Katie's WW link up and I'm so glad to have found you! Your photography is SO inspiring! Just beautiful...can't wait to see more:)
