Summer Daze Photo Party: Week 3 Plus Free Template

Life has been a bit like a rollercoaster over the last week or so.

Photobucket

But then again, what would life be without a few dips and turns and a queasy tummy from time to time.
  Photobucket

Our time with family was certainly memorable. And I think I'm in need of a recovery vacation.
  Photobucket

But we made it home and there's no rest for the weary...

Today I wanted to share 4 different ways to use the same template. The template is formatted as a 12x12 image and will be shrunk down to 6x6 for my summer album. Photobucket
1. Top left: Just clip the photos to the mask and drag your desired paper to your background. This way it will fill the white space and look as if you just put your photos over the paper.

2. Top right: Clip your photos to the mask, flatten and shrink down, and then add to paper and crop. Add text, flatten, and then add to another larger paper.

3. Bottom left: Clip your photos to the template, shrink and then repeat a second time. Flatten both and add to white canvas. (This will make the template appear seamless with the white strip joining the two.) Crop close, drag to your desired paper, and add text.

4. Bottom right: Just like top left except delete the bottom masks and add larger photo. (Or you could opt to clip half of your photo on the left and half on the right.)

You can find some of my clipping instructions here.

I am determined to prove to the world that you don't have to have a degree in graphic design or be a pro scrapper to make a beautiful album for your family. There are so many ways to save steps and time... I hope you'll give it a try. And remember, sometimes less really is more.

If you are confused about anything I've said, don't hesitate to ask. It's getting late and my brain is a bit fuzzy.

Photobucket Just click on the image to grab this FREE Template!

I don't know if you noticed, but all but one photo in this post was taken with my iphone. What can I say? I'm a busy mom. Although these templates work with all photos or paper, I am specifically creating them with iphone or instagram pics in mind. They can be used for just about anything.

And if you missed my other templates, just click here to collect them all.

WW: Life is Like a Rollercoaster

Photobucket

After proclaiming to the world that life is beautiful last week... I took off in the car with a couple suitcases and the kids to grammy's. The 8 hour drive was much more scenic than my previous Iowa to Kentucky route, only the kids didn't seem to be feeling it. And the DS, DVDs, and ipod were boring by the 4th hour. Must be rough being a kid in 2012. So, they took to tormenting each other until my 10 1/2 yr old decided to bite her 12 1/2 year old sibling. This is definitely not in the mom handbook...

And as if my drive sans hubs with naughty children wasn't enough, since our arrival we discovered a new outbreak of lice (I thought the first one last year was going to be the death of me), my parents both contracted nasty cases of poison ivy, little man was stung on the bottom of his foot by a wasp, and I woke to an allergy induced, goopy pink eye... I think if this is a test, I may be failing. Needless to say, I've not been sleeping well and I am far from my best self.

Photobucket

But in the midst of all the chaos that seems to accompany any Barnes family gathering, we headed to King's Island. Although I don't necessitate an adrenaline rush, I decided to try the Diamondback on a whim. It has an 85 mph vertical drop. And gotta tell ya, although I nearly wet myself and lost my dinner... it was a blast. It reminded me that life is like a roller coaster. And we do have a choice. And although life throws ya some less than pleasant doses of reality from time to time, we can kick and scream or try to enjoy the ride.

So, as I spend my last days here in Kentucky with my family I'm gonna try my best to put on a smile.

Before I close, I wanted to draw your attention to my current giveaway. Photobucket Rebecca, of Simple as That, has generously offered one of my Project Alicia readers a copy of Real. Life. Photography as well as a set of Addy Lane's Simple Fixes Actions. Whether you're a pro photog, novice, or mom... you'll love these! The giveaway will be open through Friday at midnight. Real. Life. Photography. eBook Launch & Giveaway

Here at Project Alicia you will find photography of all kinds, but what is dearest to my heart is and will always be the simple, understated moments captured within the walls of my home. The unplanned, unstaged, tender moments that tug at my mommy heartstrings.

So, when I was contacted by Rebecca Cooper to review her latest eBook, Real. Life. Photography, I jumped at the opportunity. You may know Rebecca from Simple as That, a blog chock-full of beautiful photos, printables and crafty inspiration galore. She is an author of two previously published photography eBooks, 40 Top Tips for Better Photos and Don't Say Cheese! But Rebecca is not only a professional photographer, author, scrapper and talented blogger, she is also a mother of four adorable children. Much like Rebecca, I'm on a mission to capture life's simple, fleeting moments.

Photobucket

But whether you are a professional photographer, novice or mom... you'll love this book. Rebecca outlines easy to understand ways to find magic in the everyday.

Photobucket

The book is 70 pages long, organized into 6 chapters and includes "Checklists for Real Life" in the last chapter- daily, monthly, and yearly.

Photobucket

But if you've been following Rebecca, you already know that her lists never disappoint! You can find them all here. Lists are a wonderful way to help photographers think outside the box and be inspired. These lists can be especially helpful for everyday photos.

By using Rebecca's lists and fabulous tips in Real. Life. Photography, you are going to be more prepared to capture those endearing moments that might otherwise be missed.

She Says, "Photographing real life isn’t always easy. In fact, it’s a lot harder than taking family portraits in a well-lit studio or outdoors at the perfect time of day. Real life passes quickly. It doesn’t wait for you to pull out your camera. It doesn’t wait for ideal lighting conditions. And it doesn’t wait for your house to be spotless. But I promise that capturing everyday moments is worth the extra effort. Capturing life as it happens helps me see things differently. Boring becomes beautiful. Ordinary becomes extraordinary. Life can get so busy and crowded with distractions that it’s easy to forget what matters most. Pausing to take photos along the way helps me slow down and just enjoy my life exactly as it is."

Photobucket

Throughout the book she shares how she got her shots as well as camera settings, wonderful tips and tricks and of course beautiful photography! 127 beautiful images to be exact.

She even touches on photo editing, with step by step photo examples using various photoshop tools.

And as an added bonus, Christy from Addy Lane created a set of Simple Fixes Actions that are a perfect companion to Rebecca's new eBook. The actions are easy to use, work with both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, and transform any photo into something extra special with a soft, understated vintage-like finish. You can learn more about these Actions by Addy Lane here.

Photobucket

I love Rebecca and her new eBook. Her work is truly inspirational. It has certainly inspired me to pick up my camera and think about my photos differently.

Rebecca has generously offered one of my Project Alicia readers a copy of Real. Life. Photography. as well as a set of Addy Lane's Simple Fixes Actions.

To enter:  Just leave a comment telling me your favorite thing to photograph.

For an extra entry: "LIKE" Project Alicia & Simple As That on Facebook (and leave a comment letting me know).

Giveaway will run until Friday, 6/29 at midnight. I will announce the winner on 6/30.

Photobucket

For those of you who can't wait to get your hands on these items now, you can purchase them for the introductory price of $9.99 each through June 30th. (The regular price will be $12.99.)

Or if you purchase both the book and the actions together, you can receive 20% off using the promo code PHOTOFIX at checkout through June 30th.

Make sure to stop by Rebecca's place for a chance at some fabulous prizes as well!

Thank you, Rebecca, for giving me this opportunity. I'm flattered to be included in the launch of your fabulous new book!

*Disclosure: Thank you to Simple as That and Addy Lane for sponsoring my post and for providing me with this wonderful eBook and action set. I genuinely love the work of Rebecca and Christy. All opinions are mine.

Summer Daze Photo Party: Week 2 with FREE Collage Template

Another busy week and summer post filled with iphone pics. If you follow me on instagram, you may have already seen a few of these. I'm @projectalicia.
PhotobucketArrows by Dragon Atrz Designs, paper from the LilyPad (Wicked Smart School Kit), and fonts are 1942 report and Pea XOXO from Karen.

The template is actually from a 3x3 grid I made. I decided to crop it to 2x3 today to mix it up a bit and show you options. The template is formatted as a 12x12 (3600x3600px) image. You can resize it to a smaller square as needed. My book is actually a 6x6 size but by making the template large it is more versatile and can be used later for different projects. I love that. And here is the template for you...PhotobucketPlease put it to good use. Just click on the image to download the FREE Template.

Make sure to check out my new Projects and Photography Pages at the top. I've made my tips, tutorials, and inspiration easier for you to find.

I'm in Kentucky with the kids playing at Grammy's. I hope that you are having a fun summer so far and getting some activities checked off the bucket list too.

WW: Life is Beautiful

The inspiration for this post came from a quickie collage I put together on the phone for instagram over the weekend. It reminded me how much I love my camera and how much it has taught me about beauty.
  Photobucket

How often do we rush blindly through life? Too tired to breathe it in or look around?
  Photobucket

Life is strung together with beautiful moments. The seemingly simple and overlooked ones that may go unnoticed if we’re too busy to notice. Intertwined between the hurdles and heartaches, these simple, beautiful moments are the ones that make all the rest worth it. I believe this with all of my being.
  Photobucket

Seeing how big the kiddos looked next to daddy this year nearly broke my heart... they are growing up. And fast.

Embrace these fleeting moments with your kids. Take time to listen when they have something to say, laugh with them, and love them with all of your heart.

And remember that life. is. beautiful.

Please Welcome JW Baugh Photography

Please help me welcome Amy Hughes and Jenny Baugh of JW Baugh Fine Art Photography. They are both talented artists who have been working together for over 10 years for JW Baugh Photography in Houston, TX doing weddings for others. Now they are expanding and opening their photography to you, offering fine art prints.

You may know Amy of Love Bug or as @amyleehughes on twitter. You can find Jenny over at JW Baugh Photography (the wedding blog). They are both inspiring photographers.

In their own words, "It’s pretty simple for us. Making art is like making happiness. Whether it’s making wedding images into something fit for a gallery, or finding something beautiful in some random place and molding into our vision. We’re those photographers. You know, the ones that always have their camera with them? The ones you see crouched down beside the tiniest flower, off in our own little wonderland? Yeah, those. It’s how we capture the beauty we see, how we seek to remember those glorious moments."

Here's a small sampling of some of their work that is available for purchase...
